For colleagues who explore the world of blogging, the process of creating content is certainly one of the most crucial steps and can determine our success. But sometimes, we find it difficult to create content for several reasons such as time, materials and other activities that must be done.
If indeed we already have a blog with a long content base, there are actually other tricks we can do, namely by posting or republishing our old content.
Advantages of Old Content Updates
In this case what is meant by reposting is, updating the old content that we have written before and then updating the date of the post. So indirectly, the content will turn into new content without having to create completely new content.
One of the things that must be considered in this effort is not to change the URL address of the content. Because if we change the content URL, indirectly the content will be considered completely new without considering the previous position of the content that has been recorded in the search engine.
Especially if indeed this old content already has a backlink, it would be a pity if we lost the link. And here are some reasons why we need to repost old content.
1. Content is obsolete
When we have content that has entered the search engine, then there are visitors who see the content but must be disappointed because the content we have is already outdated.
Outdated here can mean that the information contained in the post is no longer relevant or needs updating. By reposting, we can make our old content more relevant so it won't disappoint visitors.
The thing to note is, if we only have a little content modification, maybe we don't really need to re-publish it. It would be better if the content needed to be repaired or added information in large quantities.
2. Content Does Not Enter First Page
From the study stated that 91% of people who search through search engines, only see search results on the first page. The remaining 9% just continue searching on the second page and so on.
Now imagine if the old content we have is in the first position but on the second page of the search engine. If we update the content, add interesting information, then republish, of course there is a possibility that we will get additional social media shares and comments which means that it can encourage the content to enter the first page.
On the other hand, if we just let our old content not be updated, the content will sink over time.
3. Content must be updated periodically
On several topics of blog discussion, there is information that requires regular updates. Like for example blogs that discuss software and applications. Of course from time to time, applications and software experience updates both in terms of features, information or other things.
Well, if we have this kind of content, it is highly recommended to regularly republish. As stated above, when later readers will see the old content, they will not be disappointed and leave our blog with a negative review.
4. Utilizing the Google Algorithm
One of the most important Google search engine algorithm updates in recent years is, how does Google not only pay attention to exact keywords but also pay attention to semantic keywords.
A little explanation, exact keywords are keywords that are really the same, such as content discussing fried rice recipes, then the exact keywords entered are only "fried rice recipes" only. Meanwhile, now Google also pays attention to semantic keywords, in the case of "fried rice recipes", Google also considers content that contains other keywords such as "how to make fried rice", "how to cook fried rice", "delicious fried rice tutorial " and so forth.
Now, by updating the old content we can maximize it by adding semantic keywords to the content. That way, the opportunity to increase our content rankings will increase.
